Haircut FAQ - Questions you always wanted to ask your stylist or barber

What is a mobile haircut?

A stylist or barber that comes to your location, either in a van equipped as a salon or they bring their tools inside to cut your hair at your location.

Why should I get a mobile haircut?

It is more convenient to stay at your office, home or job site and let the barber come to you, especially if you are short on time, very busy with work, or dread waiting in line after work or on weekends to be called "next" to get a cut, and repeating this every month.

What is the best way to explain to my barber how I want my hair cut?

The best way is simply show them a picture of a style similar to what you want. It helps if the picture is of a person that has hair texture similar to yours, but a trained stylist can usually get close to what you’re going for based on an image.

Why are haircuts so expensive?

Usually hair cut prices are set at the stylist’s or barber's discretion. Highly skilled individuals tend to charge more to compensate for cost of training. Also if the overhead (rent and supplies) are expensive, they will add it in to the price of the haircut.

More experienced stylists and barbers that have been in business for many years will charge for their expertise. Some stylists and barbers are highly skilled and experienced, but realize that a haircut is a necessity and are so proficient at it that they can complete the haircut in as little as fifteen or twenty minutes and will charge less. They know that the customer that doesn't have to spend much time and money in the chair, yet still get a great cut, will be loyal and return again and again.

Is it hard to cut curly hair?

Not for a trained stylist barber, however the technique used is different than for straight hair.

What is a razor cut?

A skilled cutting technique that uses a straight razor in different ways to give hair movement, texture, and airiness. It also can eliminate bulk and puffiness.

How fast does hair grow?

Normally 1/2 inch a month. Usually faster in Summer than Winter.

Does cutting hair make it grow faster?

Hair grows from the scalp not the ends so this is not logical. However, long hair with damaged ends tends to look longer after the ends are removed as the healthier ends are thicker and more visible.

Do I need to use conditioner?

Men and women that wear hair very short normally do not need it unless they have dry hair or scalp. Any length of color treated, bleached, permed, or heat damaged hair should use conditioner after each shampoo.

What causes hair loss?

Male pattern baldness is hereditary and can start as early as twenty or as late as forty five. When it starts early, hair is lost in the crown area and recedes in the front hairline joining up to create a bald look. Later hair loss usually just constitutes a receding hairline but doesn't spread throughout the head.

Hair loss can also be from stress and fall out in random areas of the head. When stress eases up, most likely the hair will grow back in.

Alopecia areata is also caused by stress and can result in a completely bald dime size patch any where on the scalp. A dermatologist can administer a shot of cortisone to step up the regrowth of the hair but left untreated will usually grow back within a year.

What can be done about hair loss and thinning?

If hair loss results from genetics, there is nothing that can be done to make it regrow. Biotin supplements will help hair that is still there to stay healthy and grow faster. Other options are hair pieces or hair replacement surgery but today's styles of shaved or very close cut looks are more desirable and a lot less expensive.

What is the best haircut and style for thinning hair?

The shorter, the better. It is best to go with it rather than grow out thin sparse strands. A trained stylist can razor cut to texturize which can make hair look thicker if there is still hair on top. If the top of scalp is bald or near bald, a short clipper cut looks best.
